To better facilitate these conversations, the team tapped into Okendo to help future shoppers make faster, more informed purchase decisions. Prior to the engaging with Okendo, Founder Calvin Quallis built a popular men's grooming brand with an intensely loyal customer following. Strong consumer relationships were reflected in the number of reviews Scotch Porter collected each month and showcased on their website. Despite the success, Calvin and Sr. Brand Director Aleesha Worthington weren’t about to stop there; they knew there was still significant scope to further strengthen consumer relationships, showcase consumer feedback and continually improve the Scotch Porter online shopping experience.
As Scotch Porter’s contract with their previous provider was coming up for renewal, the brand went through a diligence process with Okendo to understand the upside and benefits of leveraging the platform. Faced with another fee increase on an already five figure annual contract requiring upfront payment, Sr. Brand Director Aleesha Worthington, knew it was the ideal time to make a change. “As an emerging brand, we have the opportunity to be nimble and open to unique partnerships that can help drive our business. What excited us about the Okendo platform was the fact that we could provide a seamless way for our consumers to leave reviews in progressive fashion. Beyond text, the platform allows for the use of photos and videos which is key for our audience. Allowing them to share on their terms provides tremendous opportunity to drive engagement.” said Aleesha.
Migrating Scotch Porter to Okendo was a straightforward process completed within just a couple of days. Step one was to create a duplicate of Scotch Porter’s primary Shopify theme so the Scotch Porter team could preview how Okendo would appear on the Scotch Porter website. This preview included the import of their existing reviews and a configuration of Okendo’s widgets and features to be inline with the Scotch Porter brand and product types. “The preview capability was great as it enabled us to quickly see how our existing reviews would look in the Okendo widget style and also to see how the new reviews we generated would appear. It was immediately clear to us that reviews generated by Okendo were going to contain much more insight into our customers and their product experiences”, said Calvin.
The Scotch Porter team was right! By using the Okendo Customer Profiles feature, Scotch Porter could now begin capturing valuable customer intelligence within the review capture process, including personal characteristics such as ‘Age Range”, “Beard Length” and “Beard Texture”. Also, using Okendo’s Product Insights feature, Scotch Porter would be able to gain deeper insights into what specific aspects of the product they valued such as “Scent”, “Sheen” and “Effectiveness”. These additional insights would help future shoppers make more informed purchase decisions while also enabling Scotch Porter to really highlight each products unique selling points and value dimensions.
Even though reviews now included much more insight into both consumers characteristics and product feedback, Scotch Porter’s rate of review generation wasn’t affected negatively in anyway post setup. In fact, it increased by 32%! The increase was a result of several unique factors of the Okendo’s Coupon feature. Because Okendo is the only customer review application integrated with Shopify’s Discount API, Scotch Porter was able to progressively incentivise consumers for including additional content within their review. A standard review can earn a $10 discount code but shoppers could upgrade to $20 if they include their social profile picture, photos or videos with their review. Once a review is submitted, Okendo automatically determines which coupon level the customer qualifies for, calls the Shopify API, creates the unique code and then sends it to the customer via a personalized ‘Thank You’ email. What a seamless customer experience and great way to optimize review quality and repeat purchases!
